Lion Attacks Trainer During Performance at French Circus

A lion attacked and wounded its trainer during a performance at the Buffalo Circus in Doullens, near Amiens, on May 7.

Dramatic video from a woman in the audience shows the lion grappling with the trainer before being subdued, allowing the trainer to escape.

The trainer, named in <a href="http://www.courrier-picard.fr/28765/article/2017-05-08/le-dompteur-opere-pendant-cinq-heures-le-lion-pas-euthanasie-video" target="_blank">French reports</a> as Steeve Loberot, was badly wounded in the head and throat, and transported by helicopter to a hospital in Amiens. He was operated on for several hours. Buffalo Circus said he was recovering. In a post on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=420872058280790&id=382293122138684" target="_blank">Facebook</a>, the circus also said that, contrary to some early reports, the lion would not be euthanized.
