University of Notre Dame Students Stage Walkout During Mike Pence Commencement Speech

A large group of University of Notre Dame graduates staged a walkout as Vice President Mike Pence took the stage at the university’s stadium to give a commcencement speech on Sunday, May 21.

An estimated 150 people, including both graduating seniors and family members, took part in the demonstration, according to the <a href="http://www.southbendtribune.com/news/politics/mike-pence-tells-notre-dame-grads-to-rely-on-integrity/article_20104834-3e2c-11e7-8a0c-bfe8e6db6fff.html" target="_blank">South Bend Tribune</a>. The walkout was pre-planned and intended to express discontent at the Trump administration’s policies regarding civil rights, refugees and <span class="caps">LGBT</span> issues, according to a May 15 <a href="https://twitter.com/WeStandForND/status/864502392750002177/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&amp;amp;ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wndu.com%2Fcontent%2Fnews%2F423131864.html" target="_blank">statement</a> released by student activist group We StaND For.
