Hobbies are the activities that spice up our lives. We might do them out of necessity, we might even do them out of routine, but the fact remains that they fill up our days with positive energy and happy thoughts. It doesn’t matter what we do, from seemingly boring activities such as knitting, to adrenaline pumping sports, we all have at least one favorite past time. It keeps us sane, it keeps us fit and it keeps us happy.

These things might not always make sense, but some people actually enjoy doing extreme sports. Whether we’re talking about adrenaline sports or absolutely extreme stunts that make no sense whatsoever, they are among the most common hobbies in the world. You might be wondering why, so let’s revisit a biology lesson in order to explain this.

It all boils down to a hormone called adrenaline. It is released by our adrenal glands usually in really stressful situations, thus getting the name ‘fight or flight’ hormone. What it does is speed up all of our normal functions, starting with our heart beating faster, making the blood flow faster to wherever it is needed. Along with adrenaline, the body releases other hormones that flow faster through the blood vessels thanks to adrenaline, some of them being the hormone of happiness - serotonin and the natural pain-reliever, the hormone endorphin. This heady mix of hormones is what makes these activities worthwhile to the so called adrenaline junkies.

Rock climbing can be a very fun sport if done correctly. There is just something about scaling the almost impossible looking cliff that makes it all the more exhilarating. There is even a degree of danger involved in the sport as something dangerous could happen. It seems that is exactly what happened in this clip here!

This Mountaineer and his crew were developing new sports >climbing routes in Spain when they captured this amazing moment. During a process called “bolting”, where permanent anchors are fixed in a rock as a form of protection for climbers, the man seen in this video was clearing loose rocks when a major rockfall occurred. The camera follows the rocks as they fall down the side of the mountain, crushing along the way. Luckily, the area is remote and no other people were around. While it is not common for such large rocks to become loose, proper safety precautions were taken and no one was hurt.

Talk about being one close call. Good thing no one was hurt as that was truly a scary moment to behold. You can’t help but wonder what would have happened if someone was below that gargantuan mass of rock that fell down the mountain. Aside from all that seriousness, you have to admit that watching that moment was pretty cool! Nature is truly fascinating.
