The women’s finale at the Red Hook Criterium in Brooklyn got off to a rocky start on April 29, when one cyclist’s fall caused a huge pile-up involving about two dozen riders. The 22-lap race featured 60 riders racing around a 1,130-meter track on fixed-gear bikes, with brakes prohibited for all competitors. A similar incident was filmed at the event in 2016. See here. Two attendees at the race, the Sawyer Adventure Club and Melvin Coronado, shared videos of the crash to Instagram on April 30. Storyful has contacted both uploaders for clearance.
