Police initially claimed that the vehicle in which Jordan was shot was heading toward them in an aggressive manner. They have now admitted that the vehicle was driving away from police when shots were fired into it, according to the Dallas Morning News:

Balch Springs’ police chief admitted Monday that a car was driving away from police when an officer fired into it with a rifle and fatally shot a 15-year-old boy in the head.

After reviewing body cam footage, Police Chief Jonathan Haber said the teen behind the wheel Saturday night at first backed down the street and then said the car drove away from the officers.

An alarming report has surfaced according to which an unarmed 15-yr-old boy has been shot and killed by police.

The victim, Jordan Edwards, was a model student and athlete, and his family is devastated.

According to the family’s attorney, Lee Merritt, Jordan was unarmed and was not committing any crime when he was fatally shot.

Preliminary reports from the police claim that officers were dispatched to a party where underage drinking was occurring.
At some point during their search for intoxicated minors, officers say that they heard gunshots.

Jordan, at the time, was in a vehicle as a passenger. For reasons that have not been made clear yet, one officer opened fire on that vehicle, killing Jordan.
