Shortly after Angel Marie was born, the miniature pony’s mother accidentally stepped on her leg and it had to be amputated.

Her owner Lennie Green saw how challenging it was for the three-legged pony to get around. And although she did her best to adjust to being an amputee, Lennie prayed for a miracle to help sweet Angel Marie.

Well that miracle arrived by way of Derrick Campana, an orthotist and prosthetist from Animal Ortho Care out of Sterling, Virginia.

Derrick creates prosthetic pieces out of medical grade plastic for disabled animals which helps give them a new lease on life.

Although he first began his career creating prosthetics for humans, helping animals would end up to be his true calling.

Lennie believes that Angel Marie wouldn’t have survived if it weren’t for Derrick’s help. He is incredibly grateful that his pony now gets a second chance to thrive.

As Derrick watched Angel Marie take her first steps, he said: “Seeing her walk, and having her here today walking is just a dream come true. A miracle.”
