Apollo JetBike Flying Motorcycle - 1st Solo Flights
Occurred in February 2017 / Colorado, USA
Info: US JetPack company, Apollo Flight Labs, just unveiled the worlds first jet-powered flying motorcycle.
The Apollo JetBike resembles science fiction machines from Star Wars or Star Trek.
Its first solo flight was performed over a lake in January, 2017.
Only recently have jet engines been developed that are light enough and powerful enough to fly and race the JetBikes.
Apollo says its new JetBike will reach speeds over 100 mph and altitudes of up to 10,000 feet.
The production version will be carbon fiber composite construction.
Apollo is setting up a JetBike Training Camp to train pilots for its International Race Series: Apollo Formula Air.
Each production JetBike is customized for the pilot, and comes with a safety parachute to safely lower the machine and pilot in case of an emergency.
Full JetBike production and the Apollo Formula Air Race Series are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2017.
Apollo is continuing its R&D efforts to bring futuristic flying machines into the present.
