Dog Can Detect 12-Year-Old Boy's Seizures Before They Happen
This K-9 isn't just a family pet.
For parents Don and Sam, he's another set of eyes to keep their son alive.
The dog Dopey is able to detect when the couple's 12-year-old son Britton is about to have a seizure.
Britton was born with a severe form of epilepsy, and has to be guarded around the clock.
At three-months-old, Britton was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, and three years ago received Dopey as a service dog.
Now, the two are never apart. Dopey can open doors, find Britton's parents when he's having a seizure and retrieve meds to stop them.
At night, the two sleep together, and after Britton goes in for surgery or is scik, he comforts the boy until he is feeling better.
Because of this, Britton's mom calls the golden retriever 'A Guardian Angel'.
But to Britton, Dopey is simply his best friend.
