Soldier Refuses To Leave Sick K-9 Partner’s Side
His name was Bodza and he was a hero. Not the typical avenger, but a fine, fierce four-footed version of the soldier we support whole-heartedly.
That’s right, Bodza was a dog, one trained to sniff out bombs as part of the military’s many faceted fight against terrorism.
While working in Iraq, this explosives expert came in contact with Kyle Smith. The two became fast friends and even more committed partners.
Throughout their time together, both man and beast found time to not only do their very important job, but work in a little playtime in between.
Bodza retired from service, Kyle knew what he had to do. Adopting his brother in arms, he made sure his pal had the cushiest life possible.
Then, tragedy struck. In 2016, Bodza was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, an incurable disease of the spinal cord.
Knowing he had to end his friend’s suffering, he decided to have the animal put down. In the emotional moment, Kyle makes Bodza’s last days very special indeed.
And why not – a hero of his caliber deserves such treatment. Rest in peace, brave warrior. You served your country, and your human, well.
