Winter time is a harsh time for most animals. The icy weather makes it hard for them to maintain a constant body temperature and the frost on the ground covers all available food with a white blanket, making it hard for animals to see or even smell their snacks. Cold blooded animals have no problem with their thermoregulation, but most of the mammals still have to go through a lengthy and tiring process of maintaining their core temperature on a certain average. Add this to the constant search for food, and the result can be devastating to many of them.

Although it doesn’t seem like it, most of the birds are actually warm-blooded. This explains why a good amount of them migrates to warmer climates once autumn falls on the ground. However, there are those of them who aren’t as skilled fliers due to the size of their body and they get left behind during winter. Luckily, ducks, swans and geese have developed a quite a friendship with humans, and more often than not get their food directly out of their friend’s palms.

This is a story about a generous Cardiff local who goes to Roath Park Lake every winter morning to feed the ducks, geese and swans in the area. It appears the ducks have become spoiled by his gesture, and when he arrived slightly late to the regular spot on February 11, they started walking towards him. This video shows the geese and swans blocking the road impatiently as the man arrived with a bucket of food. Seriously, how cute is that?!
