Local media in the Paris region reported on February 16 a night of relative calm in the Paris suburbs, which have seen repeated disturbances since the violent February 2 arrest of a young black man in Aulnay-sous-Bois. A group of several hundred young people did gather in Bobigny, northwest of the city. A strong police presence was visible, and tear gas was used to disperse the crowds. Video here shows evidence of vandalism during the confrontations. Thirteen arrests were made, France 3 said. Four police officers have been charged in relation to the alleged assault of a 21-year-old named as Theo L, who was released from hospital on February 16.
