Mosque Collapses as Earthquake Kills Scores in Indonesia

At least 52 people were killed when a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s Aceh province early on Wednesday, December 7, according to the country’s <a href="http://www.bnpb.go.id/berita/3199/penanganan-gempa-65-sr-di-pidie-jaya-aceh" target="_blank">disaster management agency</a>.

Among the buildings damaged was a two-story mosque in Meuko Kathang village in the Pidie Jaya district of Aceh, which partially collapsed, as this footage shows. According to <a href="http://pekanbaru.tribunnews.com/2016/12/07/sebuah-masjid-di-desa-meuko-kuthang-pidie-jaya-roboh-akibat-gempa-64-sr" target="_blank">local reports</a>, worshippers had gathered for dawn prayers when the earthquake struck, but all had fled the mosque before it collapsed.
