It is never easy to say a final goodbye to a loved one, although Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, California, was kind enough to let a dog called Mollie bid farewell to her owner, Ryan Jessen, on November 30.

A touching video of the moment Mollie the Boxer was bidding her final farewell to her favorite human as he lay dying in his hospital bed went viral at the beginning of 2017. In the video, we see Mollie standing on top of her owner Ryan as he lies in the hospital, strapped to the machines and is nervously sniffing him about, eager to get close to him. But this is as close as she can get to him, one last time.

Jessen died on November 30 from a ventricular brain hemorrhage at the age of 33, his sister Michelle said in a Facebook post. “The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to say goodbye so she’d know why her human never came home. If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog,” Michelle adds in her final goodbye to her brother.

It seems that it isn’t only dogs that feel so strongly about their owners. When a man from Brazil named Wagner de Lima passed away, his friends and family were devastated by the loss, but someone else was just as devastated as they were - Wagner’s horse, Sereno. As they were leading the horse towards the cemetery, we was whimpering and stomping on the ground. Then, as they let Sereno get near the casket, he started to cry quietly beside it.

Other people who were at Wagner’s funeral say that the horse’s behavior was extraordinary and that, if they weren’t there, they never would have believed it possible.
