A fisherman struggled to match the strength of a huge bull shark after it caught his bait on the Manning River near Taree, New South Wales, on December 9.

The 3.1-metre, 350 kg shark was caught by Glenn Thomas after a 30-minute battle, part of which can be seen in this footage shot by Adam Maddalena.

In the video, Thomas can be seen fighting to bring the shark ashore, before later returning it to the river.

“It was probably the biggest fight Glenn’s ever had. The release was great, the shark was so strong as it swam away,” Maddalena <a href="http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/manning-river-shark-pair-catch-3m-monster-using-just-rod-and-line/news-story/594cf94868ac1fe548ee07624e77b36e" target="_blank">told the Daily Telegraph</a>.
