Abdulkafi Alhamdo, a teacher turned activist in Aleppo, as well as a friend of Fatemeh al-Abed, the mother of the now famous 7-year-old Bana from Aleppo, posted a harrowing ‘last call’ video as the regime closed in on southern Aleppo on December 12.

Alhamdo expressed deep sadness and regret with regards to the international community, calling the current situation in Aleppo “the most horrible massacre that is in our history.” He talked about the fact that over the last day, many western Aleppo residents have been celebrating “on our bodies.” He continued, “At least we know that we are free people….and we did not want anything else but freedom. This world doesn’t like freedom…I hope that something can be done and that we can leave and that we can speak together once more.”

Amid the sound of gunfire and shortwave radio frequencies in the background, Alhamdo urged viewers to take action and pressure their governments to hold Syria and Russia accountable for the ongoing crisis in Aleppo. He closed with the optimistic hope that the viewers watching will one day become members of governments, and “remember us”.
