Cyclone Vardah toppled cars as it swept through Chennai, India, on December 12, bringing <a href="http://www.thehindu.com/news/Cyclone-Vardah-Eye-of-storm-crosses-Chennai/article16793334.ece" target="_blank">winds</a> up to 130 km/h (80 mph) and reported gusts of up to 140 km/h.

The Tamil Nadu state government shut schools and colleges as residents prepared for the cyclone’s impact. <a href="http://www.ndtv.com/south/cyclone-vardah-tamil-nadu-andhra-pradesh-on-high-alert-chennai-braces-for-storm-1636811" target="_blank"><span class="caps">NDTV</span></a> reported that trains and flights had been cancelled as a result of the storm.
