As reports emerged of civilians being escorted out of besieged Aleppo during the evening hours of December 13, several rebels inside the city vowed to stay in the city “until the pain will disappear, live here until the melody is sweeter.”

The Syrian regime has claimed to have control over the entire city of Aleppo, with evacuations expected to increase over the coming hours. That said, there are reports of disagreements between pro-Assad forces regarding the timing of the evacuations and a final assault on the last remaining rebel bastion located in the southern portion of the city.

Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, said earlier in the day that an arrangement had been made for rebel fighters to leave. The rebels confirmed the deal, but said civilians would also be allowed to leave. Storyful could not independently verify such claims of an agreed upon arrangement between both sides.
