Third Evacuation Convoy Safely Arrives in Western Aleppo Countryside

Rumble The third evacuation convoy filled with wounded civilians from besieged Aleppo arrived in the western Aleppo countryside during the overnight hours of December 15-16, according to <a href="" target="_blank">activist reports from the area</a>.

Following the arrival of the first two convoys into <span class="caps">ICRC</span>-run medical camps, <span class="caps">ICRC</span> Syria head Marianne Gasser <a href="" target="_blank">spoke to the media</a>, “Some 3,000 civilians and more than 40 wounded, including children, were brought out. Right up until the last minute, it wasn’t clear we’d get into east Aleppo. When we arrived, the scene was heart-breaking. People are faced with impossible choices. You see their eyes filled with sadness.”

Staffan de Mistura, the UN Special Envoy on Syria, said that as many as 50,000 will be evacuated towards the western Aleppo countryside, including at least 10,000 who represent Syrian rebels and their families. Many of those 10,000 affiliated with Syrian rebel groups are likely to be evacuated further towards rebel-held areas of the Idlib province.
