Thousands Pay Respects to Astronaut John Glenn

Secretary of State John Kerry and Ohio Gov. John Kasich were among the dignitaries who payed their respects to John Glenn on Friday, December 16. <span class="caps">NASA</span> Administrator Charles Bolden was also on hand.

Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, died on December 8 at the age of 95. In addition to serving as an astronaut, the Ohio native served more than two decades in the US Senate.

A public viewing was held for Glenn at the Ohio statehouse on Friday, which was <a href="http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/12/16/john-glenn-statehouse-memorial.html" target="_blank">attended by 4,000 people</a>. A <a href="http://www.space.com/35073-nasa-john-glenn-memorial-service-today.html" target="_blank">memorial service</a> will be held for Glenn on Saturday at Ohio State University.
