Bana Alabed, a Syrian girl and the focus of an activist Twitter account run by her mother, Fatemah, from rebel-held areas in Aleppo, arrived safely outside the city on December 19, according to multiple activist reports.

The video here shows Bana alongside Fatemah, who speaks in English about the evacuation and the siege of east Aleppo’s rebel-held areas. Fatemah says she is sad as she wanted freedom in Aleppo, not as a refugee, and said she felt like a prisoner as they were being evacuated, spending 24 hours in a bus without food or water. She extended her thanks to their supporters.

Photos from a number of sources were described as showing Alabed after the evacuation. Thousands of people have made their way outside the city on buses or in ICRC ambulances in recent days, despite multiple delays and breeches of an agreement in place to manage the evacuation.
