Following days of stalled evacuation convoys, the International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed evacuations resumed during the late night hours of December 21.

While thousands have been successfully evacuated to ICRC camps in the rebel-held western countryside of Aleppo, they face harsh winter conditions, which well-known Aleppo activist and journalist Hadi Al-Abdullah chose to highlight in a new video posted to Twitter on December 21. Al-Abdullah, a former resident of Aleppo before being wounded in regime airstrikes in June 2016, has been covering the evacuation convoys since they began several days ago and issued an urgent call to action as snow blanketed the ad hoc refugee camps.

“We must remember all of the families living in tents in the extreme cold. We must never neglect the children dying from the cold who have no sources of heat….we must not forget East Aleppo civilians…we must remember them all and help them in every way possible….You can be their guardian angels, you can be the source of warmth for every child and elderly person and their savior from the extreme cold.”
