A large crowd gathered in central Seoul on December 24, calling for President Park Geun-hye to step down over a corruption scandal. An activist group representing parents of the victims of the April 2014 Sewol ferry sinking joined the protest.

Park was criticised by protesters for her handling of the initial stages of the ferry disaster, which left more than 300 people dead or missing.
