The discovery of an unexploded WWII bomb in the Bavarian city of Augsburg has prompted the mass Christmas Day evacuation of about 54,000 people to allow for the device to be safely disarmed.

According to German reports, this is the largest evacuation of its kind in post-war Germany.

Police vehicles traveled the streets of Augsburg on December 25 urging people to leave the evacuation zone.
