A woman has been hailed a local hero for cleaning up the mess left by thousands of party-goers on Coogee Beach on Christmas Day.

Cyn Coco, who runs what she calls a “fu*ksgiving” campaign to make the world a better place, stayed up past 2 am picking up rubbish off the Sydney beach. On Christmas Day, party-goers left an enormous amount of discarded alcohol bottles and packaging, food wrapping, and lunch leftovers in the parks and along the beach.

Coco told Storyful she asked the local council for garbage bags to collect bottles and plastic. Her work inspired fishermen, tourists and other party goers to join in on the cleanup efforts. She said she filled up about 18 bags on her own and ended up cleaning about half the beach.
