Performers Jenna Ushkowitz and James Monroe Iglehart joined New York City mayor Bill de Blasio for a musical review of 2016, a lighthearted video published by De Blasio on December 27 showed.

In the clip, Ushkowitz, known for her performances in Glee and a number of Broadway musicals, and Monroe Iglehart, a Tony Award-winner for his role as Genie in Aladdin, join a number of other people in performing the song for De Blasio, who is listening via a mobile phone.

The song lists a number of accomplishments during 2016 and features the phrase, “Always New York,” a phrase and hashtag <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/nyregion/mayor-de-blasio-vows-to-shield-new-yorkers-from-trumps-policies.html?_r=0" target="_blank">previously</a> used by De Blasio..

As the performance becomes more complicated, the mayor’s enthusiasm wanes, until at the end of the performance he praises the “effort” but decides, “Maybe we should just do a couple of tweets and a Facebook post instead.”
