The number of refugees at the Hassan Shami camp, roughly <a href="http://www.wnyc.org/story/as-iraqi-forces-push-into-mosul-camps-brace-for-an-influx-of-the-displaced/" target="_blank">15km from Mosul</a>, grew to about <a href="http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-fortune-teller-of-mosul-falls-silent-wary-of-islamic-state-1483007401" target="_blank">16,000</a> by the end of 2016 as the military operation to retake the city continued. Mosul is the last city in control of Islamic State militants in Iraq.

Iraqi forces, backed by an international coalition, <a href="https://newswire.storyful.com/collections/battle-for-mosul_3104" target="_blank">launched a renewed push for the city</a> on December 29.

This video shows conditions at the camp that is home to thousands, including families and young children.
