A United Airlines flight from Sydney to San Francisco was diverted to Auckland on Sunday, January 1, after a man on board caused a disturbance and forced the airline to ground the jet.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the man was arrested in Auckland after an alleged racist rant and verbal abuse. Passengers aboard said the man “exploded into a fit of rage” around 40 minutes into the flight and used “offensive language, racial and sexist slurs,” reported the Auckland-based newspaper.

This footage shows a man talking with a flight attendant. He was later being escorted from his seat by police.

Neil Kay, who posted the footage on Facebook, called the man a “misogynistic, homophobic bigot” who “verbally harasses kind passengers and physically threatens the wonderful #UnitedAirlines flight crew.”
