Wildfire Burns Along Mountains in Quilpue, Chile

Rumble A wildfire erupted in the hills overlooking Quilpue, Chile, on Tuesday, January 3.

Firefighters were working to contain the blaze, which was fanned by winds and high temperatures, according to <a href="http://www.24horas.cl/nacional/incendio-forestal-afecta-a-quilpue-y-onemi-decreta-alerta-roja-para-paine-2236984" target="_blank">24 Horas</a>. Chile’s National Emergency Office of the Ministry of Interior (<span class="caps">ONEMI</span>), issued a <a href="http://www.onemi.cl/alerta/se-declara-alerta-roja-para-la-comuna-de-talagante-por-incendio-forestal-2/" target="_blank">Red Alert</a> as the flames inched close to residential areas in the Valparaiso region city.

At least 100 homes were destroyed when wildfire swept through a district of Valparaiso city, which is around 13 miles to the west of Quilpué, on Monday.
