The Human Library is not your typical library. Yes, there are stories waiting to be shared, but not in the way that you're used to.

The Human Library is a global movement, where you can check out HUMAN books! It is a place where real people are on loan to readers. It is designed to start conversations, challenge stereotypes, and eliminate prejudices through dialogue.

This movement started in 2000 at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and now these types of events are happening all over the world! At Fairfield University, in Fairfield CT's inaugural event, 40 "books" participated and shared their stories.

It works like this… students look on a board and are able to see the number of available books and their titles to decide which story they want to check out.

"The whole experience wasn't what I was expecting it to be. I was expecting it to be more formal when in reality it was a conversation," said Marina Linland.

Marina Linland ("Root Less: Growing Up As A Military Kid") was one of the authors...Eric Mayrhofer ("Living Ambiguously") was another.
