Selena Gomez is spending the beginning of this year reflecting on what she’s learned from 2016. And that is: Awareness. The social media queen did her first ever Instagram Live video- she was sitting outside with a few girlfriends eating what appeared to be a leisurely lunch at someone’s house, and just started chatting to fans about 2016. Just to debrief what that year looked like for Selena- she cancelled part of her Revival tour to focus on her mental health, and then took a 3-month hiatus on social media. The good news is she’s back, and it seems like she wants more meaningful relationships. Here’s what Selena said in the video: “I would say the biggest lesson that I've been learning since 2016 would definitely be awareness. I think it's really important to be aware of like, the people that you're surrounding yourself with, the people that are purposefully the ones you are spending time with.” She goes onto explain how it’s important to have friends you connect with on a deeper level, not just surface friends. She continues: “We go to dinner sometimes with friends, and sometimes we'll go to dinner and we'll leave and we'll think, 'That was such a pointless dinner. What did I learn from it? What will I gain from it? What was the point of it? And then other nights we'll sit at the table for five hours with friends… We're constantly checking in with each other. Like, 'Hey, are you good? Are you good?’” Then, Selena’s friend behind the camera adds, “It's super important to have those people that you can count on and rely on.”
