Just when you think you know every detail about why Camila Cabello left Fifth Harmony, you find out another juicy tid bit. During Girls’ star Lena Dunham’s podcast the singer confesses another reason she didn’t like being in the girl group. She felt overly sexualized. Now, we’ve all seen Camila slay in those sexy Fifth Harmony music videos and skimpy red carpet gowns, but who knew that this whole time she really felt uncomfortable? The singer admits she understands that sex sells but it went too far. She tells Dunham, “Especially with being a girl group, there’s been a lot of times where people have tried to sexualize us to just get more attention.” She continues, “Unfortunately, sex sells. There’s definitely been times where there’s stuff that I have not been comfortable with and I’ve had to put my foot down.” Cabello joined the group at just 15 years old. Now, at 19 years old, she sees how being in the public eye at such a young age affected her. She explains, “I feel like it’s been tricky because we’ve had to grow into ourselves while being in front of the world and while making songs that did have a lot of sexual undertones,” she said. Still, she added, “there’s nothing wrong with sexuality if you have that inside, it’s just an expression of who you are. If you want to share that with people, that’s amazing.” The newly-solo star ended the interview with advice to fans: “I think the thing that I would say to young women is, if you’re not ready for it, put your foot down.”
