A CCTV camera in the south-western Hungarian town of Barcs caught the shocking moment a train crashed into a lorry crossing the railway.

The accident happened around noon on 25th July. The lorry drove onto a railway crossing despite the warning signal being lit up. A train heading from Szombathely to the city of Pecs then hit it at full speed.

After the collision, the lorry caught fire and the flames spread to the front part of the train and its engine.

The firefighters from the town of Barcs put the fire out and then used special cutting equipment to open the charred lorry cabin and pull out the driver who was already dead.

Hungarian national railways MAV confirmed that some 39 passengers were on the train when the crash happened, but only one man suffered minor injuries. The company also confirmed that the railway crossing barrier was working correctly and showed a red light at the time of the accident.

The train service was replaced by buses while the scene was investigated and the debris from the vehicles was being removed.

The full circumstances of the accident are under investigation by the Barcs Police Department.
