Need some light in a pinch and a candle alone won't cut it? Grab a soda can and cut open the sides, fold them out and place the candle in. This will reflect your light and protect the flame from the elements.

If you ever find yourself in need of clean water, just grab two container and a piece of cloth. Put the dirty water in one container and run the cloth from it to the empty container. It might take a while, but you will end up with muck free water. Just remember to boil it first.

Make a simple fire starting kit by filling an egg carton with chunks of charcoal. All you have to do it light the cardboard and enjoy.

While you enjoy the fire, you can repel those nasty mosquitoes from messing up your evening by putting herbs in the fire. Rosemary of basil will do the trick.

Can’t stand to be away from your microwave? Make a solar one from an empty cereal box and tin foil. Cut a fold and open it, then line the top and bottom with aluminum foil. Then just place your food items inside and you will have a warm meal in no time.

Can’t find your way home? Rub a sliver of metal, like a needle, on your clothing, then place it on a leaf floating in some water, The point will point north!

Lastly, you can make yourself an emergency oil lamp out of a soda can, by filling it with oil half way and inserting a wick made of paper towels. Wait until the wick soaks the oil and light it. The lamp will last for hours.
