Diablo 2- Staff of Kings

The second part we need for the quest Deckard Kain has sent us on is the Staff of Kings. This is found under the sands in the Maggot Lair. Can we defeat these abominations and locate the Staff? Will we be able to figure out how to use the Horadric Cube in order to reassemble it?
