➡️ What is Cardiac Electrophysiology?
Basically, it's a fancy term that refers to the study of the electrical activity of the heart and cardiac system. Cardiac cells generate electrical impulses across the cell membrane creating a polarized state. The monitoring and observation of cardiac electrical impulses allow physicians and medical professionals to diagnose and treat patients with irregularities and conditions of the heart.

In the heart of a normal, healthy adult, impulses are sent in a predictable pattern and rhythm which causes the heart muscle to contract and pump blood throughout the body. But when a patient has a cardiac rhythm disorder, known as an arrhythmia, the electrical signals do not spread throughout the heart muscle as they should which results in heart condition. Physicians can insert specialized catheters into the heart in order to diagnose and locate the source of the problem. As you can already tell, this topic can be pretty complex.
