Lumbini is a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site located in Nepal's Lumbini Province. According to Buddhist tradition, it is the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as Shakyamuni Buddha and founded Buddhism. Queen Maya is believed to have given birth to Siddhartha Gautama around 566 BCE in Lumbini. The site is adorned with ancient and modern temples, including the Mayadevi Temple, sponsored by Buddhist organizations from various countries. Monuments, monasteries, a museum, and the Lumbini International Research Institute are also present within the sacred area. The Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where Siddhartha Gautama's mother took a ritual bath before his birth, and where he had his first bath, is also a notable feature. Lumbini has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
