TESLA Model S Plaid Submarine | Gruber Motors

We received the strangest Tesla service request ever. A customer showed up with a brand new Tesla Model S Plaid, and asked us to make it waterproof, as in submersible waterproof.

He wants to show Elon Musk, a Tesla can be driven underwater, just like Wet Nellie, a custom-built submarine in the shape of a Lotus Esprit from the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me", which Elon eventually bought, and sadly realized was only a movie prop.

Preparing this Tesla Model S Plaid in our shop for complete submersion included waterproofing external connectors, intake ports, and any other possible areas of water ingress, to prepare this Plaid MS for a 90' long drive under 7' of freshwater with fish, 2000 lb of lead for ballast, and a driver with scuba equipment in the cabin, just in case.

This video chronicles some of the preparations in our shop, and the actual event as this Tesla attempted to drive through a trough of water 90' long, and 6' deep. Watch as the owner prepares for this treacherous journey, to take a Tesla through a feat that has never been attempted before.
