This is one of my favorite stories for living a PERFECT live guided by Good Orderly Direction.
(Patience, Earnestness, Respect, Endurance, Compassion and Truthfulness are all demonstrated by the characters)
24 Abraham was now very old, and the Lord had blessed him in every way. 2 He said to the senior servant in his household, “Put your hand under my thigh. 3 I want you to swear to God that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, 4 but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac…but 6 make sure that you do not take my son back there.
10 Then the servant left, taking with him ten of Abraham’s camels loaded with all kinds of good things and made his way to the town of Nahor. 11 He had the camels kneel down near the well outside the town; it was toward evening, the time the women go out to draw water.
He put himself in a position where opportunity could knock.
In what ways do you make yourself open to opportunities of abundance?
17 The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.” 18 “Drink, my lord,” she said, and lowered the jar giving him a drink. 19 After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.”
Random acts of kindness seem to be so rare these days. People are “too busy to be bothered” This foreshadows (Mt 25:40 “What you did for the least of these, you did for me”) Why does Rebekah do this?
26 Then the man bowed down and worshiped [God for helping him fulfill his mission.]
How does the servant’s respect, earnestness and selflessness toward God, Abraham and Isaac increase his abundance? Self esteem?
22 When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out several gold tokens. 23 Then he asked, “Who is your father and is there room in his house for us to spend the night?” 24 She answered I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Nahor, [and yes, there is room]
and the story continues...
