Staying with the Western theme this week, Paul suggested that we review The Sisters Brothers (2018). Mixed reviews, the critics seemed to like this more than the audience. Usually that is a sign of a bad movie, guess we'll find out!

The Sisters Brothers is a 2018 American Western film written and directed by Jacques Audiard, based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Patrick deWitt. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed, and Rebecca Hall. It follows two Oregon brothers, Eli and Charlie Sisters, who are hired to track down and kill a chemist named Hermann Warm.

The film premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2018, and was released in the United States on November 21, 2018. It received critical acclaim, with praise for Audiard's direction, the screenplay, the performances, and the cinematography. The film was a box office disappointment, grossing only $17 million worldwide against its $30 million budget.

The Sisters Brothers is a slow-paced, atmospheric Western that is more interested in character development than plot. The film is set in the 1850s and follows the story of Eli and Charlie Sisters, two Oregon brothers who are hired to track down and kill a chemist named Hermann Warm. The Sisters are not your typical Western heroes. They are not brave or heroic, but rather they are cynical and world-weary. They are simply trying to make a living in a dangerous and unforgiving world.

The film is beautifully shot by Bruno Delbonnel, who creates a stunning visual landscape that perfectly captures the time and place. The cinematography is one of the film's strongest assets, and it is worth seeing the film for the visuals alone.

The film's slow pace may be off-putting to some viewers, but it is essential to the film's overall tone and atmosphere. The film is not about action or plot, but rather it is about the characters and their relationships. The slow pace allows the viewer to get to know the characters and to understand their motivations.
