Chinese New Premier Li Qiang’s “First Fire”: Burn Down the State Council

In China, there is a famous saying, "A new official will burn three fires upon taking office.” This is actually a literal translation. The meaning of it is essentially the same as this expression,” "A new broom sweeps clean.” Usually, a new official, when just taking office, must make some impressive achievements to prove his ability. This is also the case with the CCP’s new premier Li Qiang. But nobody would have imagined that as the head of the State Council, and the so-called No.2 figure of the CCP, his first "fire" would be to "burn" down the existing work rules of the State Council, and to reduce the State Council, the highest governmental body in China, to a mere office or even house servant of Xi Jinping and the CCP’s central committee.
