Criminal Threats vs. Free Speech - Attorney Steve discusses federal statutes

In this video Attorney Steve talks about limits on first amendment free speech and the problem of criminal threats. Recently people have been asking me if Kathy Griffin is protected by the first amendment with her recent photos depicting United States President Donald Trump beheaded.

While I do not comment on this in the video and make no assessment or insinuation on this point (everyone is of course innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law), I do think this recent issue makes it important for parents to be having these conversations with their kids, and even adults to talk to other adults who really get into politics on twitter, facebook youtube or other internet social media websites.

So these are some of the important statutes that courts might look to if they feel someone is "going too far" and making physical threats against another, and particularly against the United States President or Vice President for example. You have to be really careful in this area.
