So as 2021 has rolled along, you’ve probably already noticed that a ton of cartoon characters are getting cancelled. We’ve already had Dr Seuss, Pepe Le Pew plus a ton of drama with Lola Bunny and Mr Potato head.

With so much attention paid to cartoons this last few weeks Looney Tunes is now under the microscope after columnists and writers began exploring the hidden racist past of Looney Toons.

Even Bugs Bunny himself has a racist past. In the 1941 short All This and Rabbit Stew, Bugs is pursued by – but constantly outsmarts – a deeply offensive black stereotype. Oh no not you too Bugs!

While the concept was similar to Elmer Fudd, this African American hunter’s is specifically racial. Obsessed with playing craps, the hunter loses the very clothes on his back to Bugs, leaving him with only a leaf covering his crotch. Bugs pulls that off too during the iris out – taking the hunter’s last shred of dignity with him.
