Started Spring Garden Work On The Homestead

Melanie and I are getting ready to plant the garden this year. We want to plant a large amount this year to put away food to get us through the entire year.

We have to clean out the meadow first of all. The next step will be to get a garden tiller running so that I can till the soil.

We will be putting in some cold weather crops soon. But the main planting will be near the end of May when all danger of frost is past. We keep having random freezing nights even though we have 70 to 80 degree days at times. This can go on until the end of May up here in this planting zone.

I am removing the garden fencing and chicken fences. I want to move the chickens entirely out of the garden and have them off to the side this year.

The chicken run area will be for planting corn this year, which should do well in that soil.

Melanie is working on the yard and flower beds. She is cleaning up space for the herb gardens and flowers this year.
