Off Grid Water Shed Door & Skirting & Goat Shed Winterized

My friends were still over helping and finished the goat shed for me. I worked on the off grid water shed insulating underneath and built a door for the entrance.

My friends went straight to work on the goat shed. I gave them instructions based on my ideas and plans and left them pretty much to it on their own. They reinforced the pallet wood walls. Then they put in raised pallet wood beds for the goats to lay on this winter. They finished the front wall, closing it off halfway. And then they put on sheet metal siding to keep out the drafts.

Now our goats are ready for winter and will be cozy and happy.

I worked on the off grid water and battery shed. First I cleaned it out and then I put in the styrofoam blocks underneath the tiny house trailer frame to close off the opening down there. The foam blocks fit nicely side by side, filling the gap. Then I put in the treated lumber scraps left over from the greenhouse build and these held the foam blocks firmly in place. They also closed off the little gap that was left.

Next I built a platform for the freezer to go into the off grid battery and water shed. I have been testing a freezer which I hope to use this deer season to freeze deer meat when I harvest some during hunting season.

I used some scrap lumber and a piece of barn wood post to make a level and stable platform for the freezer to fit on. Then we put the freezer into the shed. I plugged it in and put the food back inside.

Now Melanie will be able to walk up onto the tiny house trailer bumper and stand up level with the freezer as if it was in the house on the floor.

I next started work on the off grid shed door frame.

I took a piece of plywood and cut it to fit as a door. Then I used scrap lumber to frame it in and strengthen it up.

I used some hinges that someone sent us as a wedding gift. These are perfect for the job.

The door fits snugly and looks good. I will later frame it in 16 on center and insulate and seal it off to keep out the cold weather this winter.

Melanie and I had to dig out the dirt out in front of the door in order to allow us to open it enough to comfortably fit through. The ground is sloped in front of the shed and the door could not be opened at all.

Inside the off grid rain water shed you could feel the warmth already. There is a huge temperature difference in there that you can feel. I figure it is the residual warmth from the water tanks added with heat from the batteries and some heat radiating through the walls of the off grid tiny house on wheels.

Later I will put in a 120 mm fan which will blow warm air from the bathroom by the cat litter box. This will serve the dual purpose of sucking out the cat litter smells and also heat the water and battery shed a little bit.

After we had all cleaned up and put away our tools for the day I took the camera over to the goat shed to show you what my friends did.
