Building Large Greenhouse Using All Recycled Materials

We had a guest over who helped us start building our new greenhouse using all recycled materials. This is going to be a good sized greenhouse so that we can grow vegetables and greens all winter.

Our friend Marc from YouTube came over for a visit the other day. We visited and talked for a few hours. We had discussed our projects and plans. He happens to build and work on houses so he said he would help us build the greenhouse using the recycled 2x6 lumber we just picked up from his place a couple months ago.

Marc brought some of his own tools and equipment and we used some of mine. I got out all the sawhorses and the chop saw for the project.

I explained my plans to Marc and showed him the windows that we will be using and he planned the framing. On this project I am basically supporting him.

He built an I beam for the main support under the wall. This will make it very strong and will make it last for many years.

We build the front wall which will have about 8 feet of windows across the 12 foot wide wall. This should give us plenty of sunlight for warmth in winter and for the plants to grow.

The wall is very tall now that we got it raised up in the air. It is going to be an impressive greenhouse when we are finished with it.

We used boards with stakes driven into the ground to hold the wall in place while we work on the other three walls.

Marc and I started working on the back wall next. Chris helped now and then but for the most part he was splitting fire wood for winter.

Again an I beam was built for the bottom support of the wall. I was cutting the 6 foot tall upright wall studs while Marc formed the I beam.

We both finished at about the same time and then we framed in the back wall.

By this time he had to leave for the day so we cleaned up our tools.

Marc will be back Thursday to help us finish framing the greenhouse.
