Why Is There Deafening Silence on the Ohio Train Derailment?

There is a town hall happening in East Palestine, OH tonight, the site of the train derailment that led to an explosion, blasting chemicals into the air and, according to reports, into the Ohio River.

The story here is multi-fold. Exactly how dangerous are these chemicals? What is the air-quality situation? The water quality? Are the residents of East Palestine in danger? The surrounding communities?

For those of us not in the area, our questions are more broad. Why has this been happening for two weeks, yet no one is really talking about it until now? Why aren't environmentalists screaming about this? Where is the obvious government response? Why is there obvious government silence about this?

At a time where trust in government is at an all time low, the train derailment has made it sink even further.
