Supposedly, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt refused to kill a bear that was caught in a trap and companies that were already making plush bears named them after Roosevelt to coin the new term "teddy bear". This may be one of those #history #funfacts that's in the same vein as Washington and the cherry tree though.
