Fossil crab - how did it get in the rock??

One of the questions I get asked numerous times a day, is how did the fossil crab get inside the rock? The other thing that always puzzled me is the fact that the crabs aren't scavenged or eaten by other creatures, including other crabs.

I used Blender to create the animation of the crab being covered in the concretion which I based on this paper:
Yoshida, H., Ujihara, A., Minami, M. et al. Early post-mortem formation of carbonate concretions around tusk-shells over week-month timescales. Sci Rep 5, 14123 (2015). https://doi.org/10.1038/srep14123

The 3D model of the crab is from ffish.asia: https://sketchfab.com/ffishAsia-and-floraZia. They have some really amazing 3D models available for free so please check that out.
