Breaking Character with Timmy Gusto: Self-Deprecating Comedy

I'm developing a character called Timmy Gusto where I talk in a thick Chicago accent. I don't always like to stay in character the entire time I'm on stage, and that's part of the fun, is breaking character to show the audience that it's a joke. I'm still molding Timmy's personality and deciding when I want to activate his persona. It makes me feel like I have multiple personality disorder.
