There are so many fun things to do in Pittsburgh for the holidays, the Christmas lights, as well as the special holiday events, flowing hot cocoa, Christmas decor around the city, and visits with Santa Claus, make Christmas in Pittsburgh the most festive place to be! You’ll definitely feel Christmas is in the air.

A Pittsburgh Christmas is families all bundled up drinking hot chocolate and whirling around an outdoor ice skating rink lit up by a 65-foot Christmas tree. The courtyard of PPG Place is transformed into an ice skater's paradise with one of the region's largest rinks featuring a stunning Christmas tree at its center. The holiday happenings in and around the all-glass building draw thousands of families each Christmas season.

For those who do not wish to try ice skating, PPG Place also offers free horse-drawn carriage rides around downtown for those wanting something a little different!

Christmas Market at Market Square

The holiday season in Market Square brings the best of European Christmas markets to the Burgh! Handmade gifts and goods perfect for the upcoming holiday as well as locally made candles and jewelry, wine and food, folk art, and more from local and international vendors, including from Nepal, Peru, and European countries. Over a dozen themed booths are constructed in Market Square for the holidays and feature an arrangement of gifts, Christmas decorations, snacks, a music stage, and yes, even Pittsburgh holiday themed items! Visit the Sounds of the Season Stage where live performers will deliver a selection of “soulful sounds, contemporary covers, and festive renditions of holiday favorites.”
